One thing we do really well in our house is have a laugh. I’m thankful that our kids have inherited our rather silly senses of humour and are as likely to want a tickle or to play a prank on each other as we are.
You have to see how competitive the first of every month is in our household. The Mr and Princess aren’t above setting alarms for the middle of the night just to make sure they get to ‘pinch punch the first of the month’ on each other. Luckily, they know better than to wake me out of my sleep for that kind of gimmick. I love my sleep far too much to find that particular prank funny, although in general I’m up for a good laugh!

Why pranks are good
I blame the early noughties TV, watching the pranks Michael Kyle played on his kids and vice versa in My Wife and Kids. It made me know I also wanted to have the kind of relationship with my children where we could do the same. Being able to be silly and let your guard down when you’re home is so vital for us, because if you can’t do it at home, where can you?

When we were given the opportunity to showcase MAOAM’s Mischief Hub (https://MAOAM.fun/) it was a no-brainer for us. In fact it gave us a reason to try out some new pranks on each other. I don’t know about you, but I have a Pinterest Board dedicated to the art of a good prank. For the most part it’s just for chuckles and I never implemented them.
Pranks for kids to play at home
When speaking about creating a prank challenge at home with the family, it turned out everyone else also had tricks up their sleeves they were waiting to pull out. Part of me wondered what monsters I’d created and what I was about to get myself into. Nevertheless we decided to persevere and crack on with our tasks! I love how mischief gives us all a chance to express our creativity and in the case of the girls, grow up to be more imaginative and free-spirited people. In a world where everything can be taken so seriously, it’s brilliant to have an excuse to have a good giggle.

Popper-tastic prank
My prank of choice involved:
- Poppers
- Tape
- A door
- A bag of MAOAM Stripes (the lure!)
What the prank entailed
I taped the poppers to the top of the doorframe where the kids wouldn’t be able to see them. The poppers were on the doorframe and the string was below, taped to the door itself. All of this was done with the door shut.
Then, when the girls opened the door to get their MAOAM Stripes, the poppers went off! Admittedly, it didn’t work the first time I tried it! The sellotape wouldn’t stick well enough and the string simply detached from the door. But I kept trying, which made it funnier because every time someone walked through the door, they weren’t sure if this would be the time the poppers actually worked!

Who’s Watching You? prank
The girls’ prank involved:
- Toilet roll insides
- Glow sticks
- Darkness
The girls got their own back later with their own prank. I wondered what they’d been up to so quietly in the living room and it turns out their little sibling bonding served a higher purpose. What started off as a cute bit of crafting turned into creating ghastly ghoulish eyes which they dotted around the house! Of course, I didn’t notice at first, but try getting up at 3am for a glass of water and having to walk past some neon glowing eyes! I think they won this round!
For your own mischief-making inspiration, don’t forget to check out MAOAM’s Mischief Hub for loads of fun ideas to have a go at yourselves or to inspire your own creative fun moments. MAOAM has enlisted the help of Dick and Dom who share some great ideas for mischief! If you try out either of the pranks in this post, let us know what your thoughts were and if they were as surprising to your unsuspecting family members as they were in our household!

These simple glow-y eyes sound like a lot of fun. It also sounds like your house is an interesting one to be around on the first of the month! 🙂
