Last year was the first in over a decade of blogging where, if I’m honest, I felt kind of embarrassed to call myself a blogger. Not because I see shame in blogging, I don’t. I love that I blog. I love bloggers. My embarrassment came from the fact that in the space of a year, I probably posted all of five pieces of content. Are you even a blogger if you don’t blog? Is it like riding a bike? A skill that you possess for all eternity even if you don’t flex it?
I didn’t blog much for a variety of reasons. There was so much going on in my life both personally and professionally that writing took a back seat. It seemed like the straw that would break the camel’s back. One thing too many to focus on when everything around me felt like it was on fire. Writing has always been this fun release, and I prided myself in being honest and transparent in what I wrote. It seemed wrong to write about trivial things when there was so much, more serious life changing events happening both around the world and in my personal sphere. But at the same time, I wasn’t in a position or state of mind to share what was going on more personally. So I hit pause. Pause on writing and in some respects pause on me.
I’d like to declare that I’m back. But that seems a bit premature, this could just be one of those ‘new year, new me’ bursts of energy that people seem to get. I might just be getting swept up in the huge surge of positivity my Instagram and Tik Tok feeds have me riding at the moment. Who knows? But there’s a glimmer of light, just the tiniest flicker of a flame that I’m going to gently cup my hands around and protect until it ignites. Because I’ve missed writing and I’ve missed the community I’ve felt online.
Does this mean the return of the Beyond the Grid podcast? Maybe. Or more updates and interviews based on the Black Influencers Directory? Perhaps. But I might go in an entirely different direction and take it back to basics. Share what I’ve been up to, what I’ve learnt and what I love. Only time will tell.
